(United Kingdom).- The Gambling Commission has released updated data on gambling activity in Great Britain. This release compares Quarter 1 (Q1) of financial year 2025 to 2026, with Q1 of 2024 to 2025, looking at how the market has changed in comparative periods over a year.

Gambling Behaviour Report: June 2025 Operator Data in Great Britain

This data, sourced from operators, reflects the period between March 2020 and June 2025, inclusive, and covers online and in-person gambling covering betting premises found on Britain’s high streets.

Comparison should not be made with the industry statistics dataset, as this dataset may include free bets and bonuses and does not include data from all operators. We have updated the percentage covered of the market for online gambling and retail betting. This percentage is based on Gross Gambling Yield (GGY) from regulatory returns from the 2023 to 2024 financial year.

This release compares Quarter 1 (Q1) of financial year 2025 to 2026, with Q1 of 2024 to 2025, looking at how the market has changed in comparative periods over a year.

During the quarter a maximum stake limit for online slots games was introduced. The £5 limit for all adults went live 9 April 2025 and the £2 limit for adults aged 18 to 24 went live 21 May 2025.

Note: We encourage you to always refer to the most recent excel data document which contains updated data for the entire period. This can be found on Gambling business data on gambling to June 2025 (published August 2025)

The latest operator data shows:

  • online total GGY in Q1 (April to June) was £1.49 billion, an increase of 2 per cent from Q1 the previous year. The overall number of total bets and spins increased 6 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY), to 26.1 billion, whilst the average monthly active accounts1 in the quarter decreased 10 per cent, to 12.7 million during the same time-frame.
  • real event betting GGY decreased by 9 per cent YoY to £570 million. The number of bets decreased 7 per cent, while the average monthly active accounts in Q1 decreased 16 per cent.
  • slots GGY increased 14 per cent to £745 million YoY. The number of spins increased 8 per cent to 24.4 billion while the average monthly active accounts in Q1 remained stable at 4.4 million per month. The GGY and number of spins represented new peaks for this dataset.
  • the number of online slots sessions lasting longer than an hour decreased by 9 per cent YoY to 8.8 million. The average session length decreased by 1 minute to 16 minutes. Approximately 5 per cent of all sessions lasted more than one hour, a decrease from 6 per cent in Q1 the previous year. A couple of operators have refined their session length methodology during the quarter which impacted the number of sessions, sessions over one hour and average session length metrics.
  • betting premises GGY decreased by 5 per cent to £552 million in Q1 2025 to 2026, compared to the same quarter last year. The number of total bets and spins decreased by 3 per cent to 3.2 billion.

This is the total number of times activity has taken place across all verticals; therefore, an active account may be counted more than once if they participate in more than one vertical. Additionally, a quarter-on-quarter comparison means that there is further degree of double counting in the active accounts’ data-point. For example, if an account has been active in two of the three months in that quarter, it will be counted twice in the total for that quarter. This is only applicable to active accounts and not any of the other data-points.
